In October of 2024, Rolling Stock Solutions celebrated the arrival of the pilot unit for our new locomotive leasing platform in Boston for the 2024 Commuter Rail Coalition Summit.
This arrival represents the work our team and partners have done thus far to bring a high-quality, cost-effective solution to commuter rail agencies as they face a fraught and expensive locomotive power deficit.
“Having spent a lot of time, energy and creativity to get to this point, having the actual pilot locomotive arrive was an exciting day for us,” says Phil Puccia, CEO of Rolling Stock Solutions. “It meant the contract was underway and we could see the path and plan to bringing that first locomotive online and offering it to transit agencies.”
Rolling Stock Solutions is a new leasing platform for like-new locomotives.
We’re remanufacturing the well-known F40PH locomotive, upgrading it to perform better against environmental standards and individual agency goals. This leasing option will help commuter rail agencies overcome critical challenges in the industry today. As these agencies wait out procurement of new fleets, a cycle which averages 8 to 10 years, they can get the locomotive power they need today on duration-flexible leases. We’ve partnered with CadRI for the remanufacture of existing F40PH locomotives due to their extensive experience with the model and their incredible reputation in the industry.

These remanufactured and brand-new features will take the traditional F40PH model, upgrade it to be more sustainable, quiet and efficient, and give it a new 20+ year lease on life. Our goal is to allow agencies to lease locomotives and integrate them into their fleet, while also planning for the future.
